Just me, hurting.

A few days ago I relearned some of the commandments of friendships.

Here they are, in no particular order.

1. Thou shall not make comments about your friend’s past, whether in person or in social utilities like facebook, that his/her present partner may  not appreciate . Not everyone knows your history nor have the ability to discern playful remarks from malicious ones regarding it.

2. Playful remarks made side by side with malicious ones uttered by another person make the whole thing malicious. Own up to both.

2. Thou shall apologize immediately if you had inadvertently violated the first commandment.

4. Sometimes “‘I’m sorry” doesn’t quite cut it. People hurt longer and deeper when significant others are involved. Don’t expect the other to mean it when he/she says, “It’s alright we’re okay”, because it’s not.

5. Even friends say things they don’t mean when they are angry. But it doesn’t mean you don’t have the right to get hurt when they say things like, “If you can’t accept that I’m with him/her, then let’s just go our separate ways.” Because that, in a nutshell means, your decade of friendship is horseshit.

6. That it hurts even more when friends drag other friends into the mess when you have clearly agreed that it was done and over with.

7. That it goes a notch higher when friends begin to list down everything they have done for you and throw it right back to your face. At this point, you might as well start your own list.

8. That, incredible as it sounds, it is then time to say, “Alright. All is cool, Just don’t come knocking at my front door when the wind in your sail stops to blow, because this ship, my friend, has sailed.”
